The tales of this age of COVID-19, that are retold years from today,
May be full of hardship and sorrow, but also the bold and the brave.
There’ll be no talk of knights on white chargers or burly tight-wearing blokes,
Those that’ll become the stuff legends, are the ordinary hard-working folks.
Them that we’ve oft took for granted, like shop workers and cleaners and such.
Truckers, paramedics, doctors and nurses that we’ve never relied on so much.
They’re the ones battlin’ on t’ front line, putting their fear to one side.
Risking their welfare and safety to make sure everyone else can still thrive.
Now these folks didn’t volunteer for t’ fight they’re just doing what they’ve always done.
And that’s what we need to remember long after this battle is won.
While pissing and moaning on tinter web ‘bout lock-downs and lack of bog-rolls
Think on those keeping y’r arse safe n sound – ordinary hard-working heroes.
Clap in the streets, put hearts in y’r windows, but don’t let it just stop there.
Fight for wage rises and better conditions - more concrete proof that we care.
The hardest times we’re going to face might not have even happened yet
So keep sharing the tales of our ordinary heroes – lest we ever forget.
